Finding Your Bar Length

  • Step-By-Step Instructions

To find the perfect bar length, you’ll need to measure your piercing. All you need is your phone, a plastic ruler, or our Luna Ruler for an easier more accurate measurement.

Step 1:

Line up your phone against something in front of you about the height of your navel. Wash your hands before you get started.

Step 2:

Stand one foot in front of your phone:
•    Use front camera
•    Don’t zoom in
•    Focus on the ruler markings
•    Set a timer, don’t reach out
•    Stand tall

Step 3:

Place ruler near your piercing, lay it flat on your body without pressing or pulling on the skin:

Using a regular ruler: Unscrew the top ball and place the ruler with millimeter or 1/32-inch markings towards your piercing.

Using our Luna Ruler (barbell): Unscrew the top ball, align the cutout with your jewelry. (hoop or reverse): consider removing your jewelry, align the cutout with the bottom of the exit hole.

Step 4:

  • Pull shoulders back
  • Stand tall
  • Do not use filters or zoom in
  • Do not alter the photo’s perspective
  • Take the picture

What length is your piercing?

Using a Regular Ruler: Start by counting the lines, beginning with the one just below the mark that aligns closest to the center of your piercing.

Using the Luna Ruler: Count the lines, starting with the second line or spot the color that lines up with the bottom of the ridge of your navel as shown.

What bar length should you buy?

Your belly ring should be 1-2mm longer than your piercing. If your piercing is 8mm or less and over a year old, jewelry that’s 1mm longer (i.e. 9mm) is sufficient. For newer or longer piercings, 1.5 or 2mm is better. Note: your jewelry will stick out just as much. Need help? Send us your picture.
